sticky ball

back to work today after my SFA course. I dunno, I just don’t seem to like anything at the moment. The SFA course was good, but still not enough for me. I believe I need a holiday.

I thought I left my workstation on while I was away, but when I got back this morning, my familiar screen didn’t seem to come back when I wiggled my mouse like usual. I knew something was wrong straight away. So I hit the restart button and my login screen came up, but little mousy still wasn’t responding. I used my keys to log in, and gave mousy a bit of a shake and noticed there was a shaky response! Yey, mousy was alive, but not in a very good state. I examined mousy from head to tail and on rolling over into the recovery position I discovered someone had put Sticky Tape on mousy’s ball!!!

Naismith, I know it was you. Your dead.

First Aider

To add to my Fire Warden status achieved last month, I have now been nominated to become the 'first aider' for my dept. So I'm halfway through my sfa (senior first aid).
Today we covered the following acronyms

DRABC
BBSFM
EAR
CPR
AMPLE
PER
SMS

10 points if you can tell me what they stand for.

Apart from that it was pretty good, got partnered with my cousins friend that I met at their wedding, and the trainer is one of my parents friends. I got to have my leg splinted, arm bandaged, be an electricution victim and give the kiss of life to 3 different sized dummys.

Hold on to your ego

I followed the rules an everything (no pens/paper, no help) and I was interupted twice, and in a noisy environment. Personally, I rate this IQ test about the same as my IQ.

http://www.testcafe.com/iqtest/

Congratulations!
Your general IQ score is 155.

A person whose IQ score falls in the range of 144-160 is considered to be "gifted".

An IQ is a composite of your scores across 12 distinct aspects of intelligence. Each person has a unique intellectual make-up, with strengths and weaknesses that affect their methods of understanding, recognition, communication and association. Using a carefully cross-reference scoring scheme, TestCafe is able to accumulate a profound quantity of information about your natural intellectual abilities.

For example, your Pattern Recognition score is 100.

... and then it goes on and on about how smart I am and if I pay them some money, they will tell me some more about how smart I am.
But really, I got the jist of how smart I am just from that first bit, Ill hold my ego right there I think.

Dolphin safe
Went to pt Vincent on the weekend. Went fishing off the rocks which was fun, ben nearly got a blue groper, but it got away, I caught a massive squid, and pb topped all our catches by snagging a dolphin. It was a baby dolphin and all.
Two dolphins were swimming past pretty close to where we were fishing and I called out when I saw it and pb stopped reeling in his squid jig, but it was too late, and the baby dolphin went for it, and got it, and pb screamed like a girl, and then he screamed some more, and then a couple of seconds later the dolphin jumped right out of the water and spat it out!
It was pretty amazing.
Other highlights include my monopolising in monopoly and also my winning 200+ score in scrabble.

Sent this to the PM today:

Dear John Howard,

I urge you to release all children and families from immigration detention in Australia and Nauru.

Please reconsider the HREOC report and amend the laws relating to immigration detention so that:
- there is not a presumption that undocumented children will be detained;
- any detention of a child will be reviewed within 72 hours by an independent Court or Tribunal;
- and that there are minimum standards legislated for the treatment of children in detention.

By detaining these people and their children we are doing so much long-term damage that will have consequences for years to come.

you can send him your message here:

macman

there are a number of macmen at my workplace who have been maclead to believe that everything non-mac is extremely hard and everything mac is easy and straight forward.
P macmanus came to my desk with his mini-dvi to vga adapter
and said, "is this all I need to be able to connect my mac to the projector?"
and I said "yes, Ive never had problems with them."
And he said, "does this mean my computer has to be this close to the projector (the adapter is only about 20cm long), or will there be an extension cable on the projector?"
and I said yes, "there will be a cable that goes from the projector to your adapter, usually, this cable would just plug straight into the vga port on the laptop, but your mac doesn’t have a vga port, so you need this adapter"
and he said "yes that’s because macs are really well designed and nice and tidy at the back"

phat chance

After work met M to look for a new suit and we went into cue and one of M’s friends is the sales assistant there and M hasn’t seen her for a while and M gets this clucky look on her face and starts getting very excited "omg! Omg! Wow!…. " and is standing there looking at her stomach with a big smile and "omg! Your pregnant! Congratulations! That’s great!"
and then the friend says:
"no M, im not pregnant, I just got fat."

ghey

Went to a quiz night to raise money for a south australian float in the mardi gras last night. Youde think there would be more to say about this, but there’s not. Nothing funni happened, infact we left before the end coz we were coming second to last, which is probably worse than coming dead last in interest value. Oh, two drag queens rocked up near the end, but one of them was actually a girl dressed as a guy dressed as a girl.

Then went out, supermild, mojo, supermild, shots. Had banter with the doorman at supermild, played foos with wyman against tg at mojo and lost, played foos with maja against someone and won, shots was a dive. Feel a bit seedy today, but not too bad.

doh

Just looked at my watch and it is covered in dried out dough. Spent yesterday arvo trying another nunnu bun attempt. This time I had ‘supreme’ flour straight from the mill. Thanks tg! However, I mixed the dough and it was really hard, put it in a warm spot to rise, and waited. It didn’t rise at all!! By the time I had made the chicken statayish filling to go inside and made a pot of soup for dinner, it still hadn’t risen and it was like 5pm. Decided to go ahead and make them anyway, they turned out ok, but very hard. No rising means no air, means very hard. I sort of suspected this might happen cause when I mixed the yeast, it didn’t bubble like it should.

I’ve decided to try a croissant recipe and adapt it a bit next time, cause they are kind of that texture, and I know they use eggs.

comfortable

As with cibts Tallandoon, we also have an inspection next week. We seem to have them like once a month these days, B also said that he thinks the real-estate agent may just be stringing us along for a few months and building up to kicking us out because our lease was up a couple of months ago now and they haven’t said anything about renewing it. If I had to move, my whole life would change, maybe it would be a good thing? But really, it’s pretty comfortable where I am sitting right now, I don’t know if I could go backwards on the comfort scale.

Hmm.
Been doing a fair bit of work these days. When I don’t do much work, it feels bad, when I do do much work, it feels pointless. It’s not like I don’t like what I do either, often you think that if you liked what you did, then it wouldn’t be pointless, but it is. I basically get to do reasonably interesting stuff, but it still seems pointless.

There must be a way around this dissatisfaction, perhaps my occupation is missing one or all of the following elements:
Necessity
Reward
Instant results

Just read this review of Coachella
http://thedecadentwest.blogspot.com

Brought back warm fuzzy fun feelings that this wintry weather lately has been making me forget. How good was it, there were no pixies last year L, but we did get The White Stripes, Blur, Primal Scream, Sonic Youth, Groove Armada plus lots of soo much other good stuff.

Jeez, could all these feelings of emptiness and tedium be due to the cold weather?
