Long Long Weekend

The weekend was soo nice and now I’m back at work I feel the pain. Everybody is feeling it, email from tg today saying nothing but ‘I hate this’ at 11.20am pretty much sums it up.

thursday eviction
Most devastating news arrives in the mail. It’s time to go…. Msy, btr and dyl….That’s right, farr crt is soon to be vacated forever. For some reason this is very upsetting for me, more so than I would have expected.

picnic friday good
27 degree sunny day – and I didn’t get burnt :)
Dobs - I even marked a few instead of my usual reaction of protecting my head with my hands
Food – everybody did their allocated task with excellence
Mtbunny – mtb bringing easter parcels for everyone

picnic friday bad
Dobs – one of my dobs came dangerously close to ktya’s babies pram and another hit the poker table
Jn – landed badly on his knee requiring my first aid skills
Poker – getting taken out by jn is no good, but watching others get done by first time player Jlie is pretty entertaining.

relly bash saturday good
Nanna is now a great nanna with the first of the next generation being born on the weekend
Nanna’s male companion alby was featured in a double page spread in horse racing Australia magazine with an article about his life, successes and contributions to the racing community, awwww, aren’t they cute…

Mum made these funni easter cakes instead of eggs too…

relly bash saturday bad
Jn not coming along, cause clr and nic weren’t coming, but then informing me after the event that my presence is required at his parents house on sunday

sat night
How nice is the grace, it’s so cosy. Played some pool, won, then to mojo and played some foos, won, it was great, not quite the same as the hey day, but still a good night.

sunday
Won $100 before midday, nice.
Jn went to church an hour early because he forgot about daylight saving.
Jns parents for lunch – lots of good food
Jns mum cornered me in the kitchen and told me that engagement is totally different to marriage, she also said that she wanted to invite my parents over for dinner.
Kites after lunch…

Sunday night
Mandarin house for dinner with smon and jlie then to grace again for some more cosy beers.

Monday
New computer set up and ready to go, yey! But cant get internet working, booo!

In other news

Tg and I start italiano lessons tonight.

puffy
Me: your cheeks look all swollen, are you ok?
Jn: they’re fine, it’s your eyes that are swollen

Rk is safely on his way to world poker open.

Brunatex have finished recording and it sounds good.

Fishy Friday

Penance
1. An act of self-mortification or devotion performed voluntarily to show sorrow for a sin or other wrongdoing.
2. A sacrament in some Christian churches that includes contrition, confession to a priest, acceptance of punishment, and absolution. Also called reconciliation.

Yey, long long weekend, after a tough week, I think I deserve it! Picnic on Good Friday, and if you think it’s easy, well it’s not, but it should be a nice day at least.

Did you know that it is tradition to eat fish on good Friday? Well I knew this but didn’t think people upheld it.

After digging around and not finding much as to why this is, I asked the very smart academics at my work.

Apparently it is as a penance, because at a certain time in the churches history, when they were taking the odd thing written in the bible literally, somewhere in there it says something like:

those who don’t give penance will peril

So it was decided that everyone should give penance once a week by not eating meat on Fridays, all Fridays. It was further decided that people needed some protein to get through the day so Fridays were made fishy and then the monks apparently started a great business in fish farming. Somewhere along the way, Fishy Friday has mostly been dropped, except for Good Friday.

In other news

My sister had a dream that we went skydiving on her bday and then because I was phaffing about we missed her birthday party altogether.

My good run in friendly poker games came to an end the other night when I placed last, but my bad run in online poker games has also come to an end at the very same time placing 1st and 2nd in my last two games.

The clipsal is over and I got out almost unscathed. Msy got us into a mansion on the track on Sat which supplied free food, alcohol and cigarettes. Wasn’t pretty. The cars are very noisy and made me quite anxious, but then again that could have been the ten thousand red bull and vodkas I drank.

Nothing

Nothing is happening really.

Couldn’t find anything to listen to today. Finished up first with Beatles Abby Road and Sgt. Peppers and now Beck Sea Change. Not bad actually, but not really waking me up at all.

I’m very tired after lunch today, went to San Giorgio’s and didn’t order pasta for this very reason, but it seems, im soo tiired anyway, so its bye bye sanG’s for me.

My head still hurts from falling up the stairs a couple of nights ago with a bowl of hot dinner in a rush to get back to my poker game which I lost anyway.

Yey! Msy gets back today from her 2 wk trip down south. So that’s good.

And Clipsal 500 is on. I get woken up by car zooms every morning and instead of my phone telling me I’m in Adelaide, apparently I’m in a V8 supercar or something. It’s good though, the city comes alive, but actually it’s more like a ghost town on my way to work, cause they have blocked off all the streets I walk through.

Oh, and it’s St Patricks Day today too.

Finished my sister’s 30th invitation. This is a mini version of it.

I’m reasonably happy with it, but I think the new years one was better, although my sister is pretty cute, esp in her rollerskating outfit, so that makes up for everything.

Started reading poker books, well, I’ve read a bit of one, I think it is destroying my game, but apparently this happened to rk too when he started reading up, so perhaps in a couple of months I’ll be off to my first $1 000 000 tournament. Hope so, I can handle the interim losses if that’s what happens.

Weekend

Friday there was a massive flood at work.

Friday night headed up to Loxton for a brunatex gig. Stayed in the backpackers and mtb got bitten by bed bugs. Gig was good, not many ppl though cause it was a bit early in the day, but mtb counted 90 ppl paying attention.

It was Chelsea’s bday on Sat night, that was fun, ran into this guy from my primary school who I saw in the paper not so long ago cause he was in court for taking naked pictures of some chick or something. Then went to shots, apparently I said it was good, but then thinking back I really don’t think it was, but I must have been having an ok time.

Cousins baby shower on Sunday, few rellies in the backyard, some cheese, strawberries and champagne. My cousin said that she also craves ice, and yes, pregnant women are 3 to 4 degrees hotter than normal. When Ktya was preggas, she used to go through drive through and order a sml coke and a large cup of ice.

Brunatex are recording at the moment too, so j comes to my house at like 1am everymorning, this seems to wake me a bit and I have been remembering some pretty vivid dreams. I seem to go to extremes in my dreams, they are usually full on horror dreams with murder and blood, or really really sad like last nights, occasionally they are happy, like the one I had a while ago where I was in Africa and I stopped to look at a giant snail on the path and then a stampede of animals came at me but when they reached me they all turned into people and started dancing.

?????

This morning when I got into work, all the chairs were on the desks, the carpets smelt funni and slightly damp, and the following drawing was on our whiteboard.

And now, at 4pm, after a very frustrating day, that's not over yet, I think I understand where the artist was coming from.

exciting poker post

congratulations to rk who won entry to the world open that has a prize pool of
$1 000 000!!!

boring work post

Today I had a meeting booked with someone in an office about 10 minutes away from mine.

The manager who organised the meeting was not attending and coincidently had a meeting with someone here in my office at the same time.

She had arrived at my office and said hello to me and stuff and then I said well I’m off to the blah building and left for my meeting.

When I had walked the ten minutes and arrived at my meeting, there was no one there. I waited a while and then called back to my office to talk to the manager. Who then told me that the meeting was yesterday!

Seriously, there are so many annoying things about this its ridiculous.

Why didn’t they call me when I didn’t turn up yesterday?
Why didn’t the manager say something to me when she arrived at my office today?
Why didn’t I tell the manager specifically that I was going to that meeting when I left?
Why didn’t the manager think it was a coincidence that I was going to her building at the same time as our meeting that I didn’t attend yesterday?
Why don't they just use the scheduling system or email instead of organising meetings over the phone so i have no record to prove im right?

in other news

Walked to work with J today, which is always enlightening. For all those who think I may be a little blunt to J on the phone sometimes, or perhaps see me roll my eyes when the phone rings, this is kind of communication I am dealing with on a daily basis.

Apparently J answers the phone at work with ‘hello, blah blah, ict services’ but he says it as fast as he can whilst still enunciating the words so that the person on the other end hopefully gets rattled and then J will have the upper-hand in the conversation.

ace, ace, ace, ace

It’s pretty fun playing live poker tournament at matchroom now. It’s such a dodgy place though, could be busted up by the police or the mafia at any time I reckon. If you stop and look around at the faces it’s pretty likely you’re looking at guys that could very well have killed someone.

It’s funny when barter is the last one still in and rk, chd, tg and I are all standing behind him like a cheer squad, but he is usually just dying a slow death in typical barter style. He’ll be on the last table with a few thousand in chips versus these massive stacks of thousands and thousands and we’ll all be standing behind him while he somehow manages to stay in the game.

It’s also funny when chad gets out early and is made ‘tournament director’ and everyone spends the night beckoning him. ‘chaaaaad? chaaaaad!’

It’s also funny when you’re in the airport going through security and you hear some total stranger point rk out to his mate and say ‘that guys a heaps good poker player’

It’s a bit creepy when the oldish guy across from you stares you out the whole game, but then not so creepy when tg tells you he told her he always does that to new players.

It’s the best when you get 4 of a kind with aces on the turn and get 2 callers on your all in.

in other news

I made homemade gnocchi the other day and it was so good! I used a Jewish recipe as a guide, but I think the key is in the OO flour and using warm fluffy potato’s in the mix.

I have enrolled in 1st year Italian. So has tg. And mtb is also studying, she’s doing first year psych and also a fitness instructor course.

Bought a new hairdryer that automatically turns off when you put it down, and turns back on again when you pick it up.

Eeewwwww. I’ve started drinking excessive amounts of peppermint and lemon balm tea. This is something I have always dispised and thought was gross when my mum drank it. I also drink mineral water sometimes now which I also find a disgusting habit.

Friday night apre-work drinks

Had drinks after work, and somehow we got on the topic of things about people that you wouldn’t probably know and someone came up with the idea that we all go round and tell a story. Keep in mind everyone I work with is 50+

They were all very funny, top three responses:

1. Well, I actually made my wife’s wedding gown from scratch, it was a white gown that gathered in the middle with a cummerbund.

2. Well, I once taught myself to yodel from an online yodelling website (yodel-ay-ee-hii)

3. Well, I always thought I’d finish up on the stage, oh and once I got arrested for underage drinking and had to go to court.

brisbane
Brisbane was a lot of fun. Wet and wild, Byron Bay, The Delgados, laughter, tears, sunburn and drunkens.

Apparently my last post about the jetstar 30 mins rule was stressful. I think that may have actually been it’s intention, to stress that it was important not to be late. Anyway, no-one was and it was all good. I rate Virgin about 10 times better than jetstar though – better check-in system, allocated seating, better menu, nicer cabin crew, better uniform

life stories
I was watching X-factor and they made all the contestants get up and talk about the happiest and saddest times in their lives. I thought it was a bit personal to put on TV and then when I watched them all trot out the same answers it became almost boring, I was desensitised to their emotions.

“I have a beautiful wife and two fantastic kids and they are the best things in my life”

“The hardest time for me was when insert family member here had insert disease or death here

So basically, if these things haven't happened to you yet, you can expect them to occur sometime soon, cause they happen to everyone. Is that too negative?

wenches, muslims, pagans and Christians
It was o-week last week and the plaza was filled with all the different clubs and societies. Everybody cohabitating in relative harmony, nice to see. Relative harmony I say because I did hear the *#$*#** Christian’s saying to the Pagan society “DON’T CALL US THAT”, but the muslim’s didn’t seem to mind being next to the busty wench cleavage of the medieval society, and the medieval society didn’t mind sharing their jousting ground with the kendo association either.

who are you?
Me: ‘how funni is the medieval society’
J: 'it's kind of good, they dress up and have battles and stuff'
J: ‘I signed up for that in first year’
Me: ‘hahahah, medieval society, hahaha’

in other news, cause im finding it hard to make time to update

Went to matchroom poker on Sunday, went out about half way, tg 13th rk 7th, chd and btr went out early, but besides my lack of good results and accidentally posting the big blind when I wasn’t on the big blind, it was heaps fun.

Family spending lots of time in hospital lately, 2 emergency room visits within the last week, also I got mum to try ‘marakesh cigarettes’ as she calls them to help with chemo side-effects, although through a vaporiser so there’s no smoke involved, said she slept like a baby, but then hasn’t really tried again since, apparently she doesn’t like the taste. Pretty funni when I accidentally blurted out "omg, it reminds me of being 15 again", also funni to see mum weighing it on the scales.

Also been looking at many low level care facilities for nanna lately too, remind me when I’m 50 to book in a good one cause there is some serious disparity in quality out there and some serious competition for places. Went to a good one (nice bar, card room, pool tables and hairdresser onsite) one morning with my sister and there was a serviced apartment available, but by the time we went back with nanna in the afternoon it had sold.

Sister having her 30th soon, yey, should be a good one, she has put me in charge of invitations and music.

Yoshimi (netty team) has made it into the grand final! Despite being out of my shooting form on Monday, we battled through 3 quarters and dominated in the 4th to make it through. If we win, we get our team photo taken and then played on the tv everyweek.

Good to see rkruok back up and running.
